BEYOND THE VEIL

My eyes,
My heavy heart,
Still working,
Though the flowing sand is running low.

My storm,
My wind of sorrow,
Calms among the spruce tops,
Settles with these steps.

I could not command,
Nor claim my share.
Into my fate my life was written
In fragile letters.

Yet in the final moment,
The forest’s embrace,
My chosen way
Of bending death to my will,
And the pain fades away.

“Sink into the embrace of twigs,
Into the caress of a mossy bed.
As flower, as tree you may grow,
A bird beyond the veil.”

I remain so far from the lights,
So far from words of solace,
So far into the morning wilderness,

“Into a gentle grave.”
Every moment closer to death,
Time smiles as it ends.
Nature cradles me beyond the veil

“Follow me.”

Hands let go,
Release and adapt.
I wish to dissolve, to become part of beauty,
Of beautiful cruelty.

And the heart stops,
The world stands still,
Nothing frightens me,
I am safe in this soil,
In eternal sleep.

Carry me beyond the veil.
“Follow me.”
